The £250,000-a-week star is still a target for Chelsea to bring to Stamford Bridge.
According to CBS reporter Ben Jacobs, Chelsea has not "given up" on trying to sign Barcelona striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang before the deadline on Thursday.
The loss of Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner to Inter Milan and RB Leipzig, respectively, is thought to have put the Blues in need of attacking reinforcements.
- What is the most recent information about Aubameyang?
Chelsea is 'having second thoughts' about signing Aubameyang, according to David Ornstein of The Athletic, who provided an update on their pursuit of him.
The west London team allegedly "made a proposal worth £15 million" to wrest the 33-year-old from Camp Nou, but they have yet to reach an agreement with Barca. Aubameyang's personal terms have also not been settled, and he still has three years left on his £250,000-per-week contract after having only joined from Arsenal in January.
According to Ornstein, Chelsea is uncertain about whether they will get value for their money in any potential deal for the Gabon international and has stated that they 'would want to include' performance-related incentives.
However, despite rekindling their interest in Crystal Palace forward Wilfried Zaha, the capital club still views Aubameyang as their top priority, according to Ed Aarons of
- How has Aubameyang been described by Jacobs?
GiveMeSport has been informed by Jacobs that Chelsea is still hopeful of signing Aubameyang despite 'certainly looking at other options'.
The task of actually reaching a deal with Barcelona, he said, "continues with Aubameyang. Chelsea hasn't given up, but they are undoubtedly considering alternative strategies.
"Bringing in a striker will undoubtedly be Chelsea's top priority; they've wanted one from the beginning. Whether it's a direct striker or a more artistic player, Raheem Sterling plus one.
- With Aubameyang in the lineup, how could Chelsea play?
Thomas Tuchel has favored a forward line up front so far this season that consists of Mason Mount on the right, summer acquisition Raheem Sterling on the left wing, and Kai Havertz in the middle.
In contrast, Havertz has made just four Premier League appearances and has failed to score a goal or even offer a single assist.
Tuchel and Aubameyang worked together at Borussia Dortmund from 2015 to 2017, so it's perhaps not surprising that he's eager to see him again.
Aubameyang has scored 299 goals in 581 senior club games overall, demonstrating his prowess as a goal-scorer at the highest level. He could be the player Chelsea needs to once again contend for trophies.
